Beware of Companies is one late-blooming whistleblower's scathing account that sends a message of caution to the underhanded machinations of the gambling industry. Aside from the allegations against this casino, the author of this novel takes it a step further with actual evidence to strengthen his argument.
One of the most heart-breaking experiences Pascale had was when the company used the ideas he submitted via the Employee Suggestion Program (ESP) without giving him credit. More than the enticing rewards that come with participating in the ESP, he did his best because he wanted to contribute to the growth of the company.
From the kitchen to guest services, Batieufaye exposes the corruption and exploitation present in one of the world's biggest casinos, Resort Casino, where he worked from 1996 to 2004.
In addition, he hopes that through his book, he can provide comfort and encouragement to those who are feeling disheartened because of the anxiety and stress caused by the workplace—things that antidepressant pills and other pharmaceutical drugs cannot offer.
I believe it is safe to say that every working person in the world has gone through a completely unfair work situation. But maybe not as many have gone through a situation as unfair as the one detailed by author Pascale Batieufaye in his tell-all memoir Beware of Companies: How I Recovered From Injurious Employment Practices—So Can You! He did not want to be potentially silenced before laying out the goings-on of a corrupt casino that employed him. Batieufaye does not hold back either and makes sure to lay it all on the line once and for all to not only tell his story but warn others of red flags to look at with their own employers.
While he may have had to change certain details to conceal identities from a legal standpoint, there is no stone left unturned in his chronicling of his tribulations while working at the casino in question. After submitting an idea he had through their “employee suggestion program” — otherwise referred to as ESPs — Batieufaye not only received no recognition for his own idea that was subsequently coming to life, but was eventually pushed out of his own job by the tribe who owned the casino. It will have you enthralled by the story being laid before you, to be sure, but will also have you taking notes for your own future to make sure the same thing does not happen to you.
Even through all of the turmoil, he remains optimistic and tries to keep his message as such. More than anything, he wants to help others who might find themselves in a similar situation avoid the path he was brought down.
